Insight
The Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (DCASE) is dedicated to supporting artists and cultural organizations, investing in the creative economy, and expanding access to and participation in the arts in Chicago’s 77 neighborhoods. As a collaborative cultural presenter, funder of the arts, and advocate for creative workers, our programs and events serve Chicagoans and visitors of all ages and backgrounds, downtown and in diverse communities across our city – to strengthen and celebrate Chicago.
DCASE programs the Chicago Cultural Center located in downtown Chicago, providing opportunities for artists and organizations to create and showcase their work. During the years 2022 Chicago Dance Year, a new floor was installed in the building’s dance studio, creating a functional rehearsal space for dance of all styles. DCASE is now launching the Chicago Cultural Center Dance Studio Residence to provide space, time and funding of $10,000 to $25,000 to dancers seeking to create new work.
The objectives of the dance studio residency program include:
- Position the Dance Studio as a community asset for the development of new works
- Create intersections between performers and the public
- Provide co-learning opportunities for the Chicago dance community
- Support a diverse group of artists reflecting the city of Chicago and its cultural landscape
