Tammy Gill was born to dance and has followed in her mother’s footsteps to provide the Bargara community with a unique dance opportunity.
For more than two decades Unique Dance at Bargara has operated in St Peter’s Hall, Bauer Street, and now the family dance studio is on the move with the doors to a new specially designed installation open next month.
Having learned to dance at the age of two, Tammy said that it was when her family moved from Adelaide to Bargara that her passion for teaching dance really ignited.
“By the time we moved to Bargara, I was finishing my last years of studies,” she said.
“Since there were no studios serving the beach, Mom opened a dance school called Behind the Waves.
“I took over the studio in 1999 and changed the name to Unique Dance at Bargara, reflecting my belief that everyone has unique talent.”
Last year marked Tammy and her mother’s silver anniversary, as Unique Dance has been operating in Bargara since 1995.
Tammy said she has always dreamed of owning her own dance studio and now that dream has come true, and she is excited to think about what the future holds.
“When I started, the hall was the only place available to hold dance lessons because Bargara was still a small community,” she said.
“I will be able to offer much more to our community.
“Having our own facility will be a major improvement in many areas. “
Unique dance studio built by locals
Tammy said Unique Dance Studio was a specially designed installation created by a local company Constructions Nathan Groszmann.
It will allow dancers to practice at any time.
“Our equipment will have special accommodation and can be left out, instead of putting everything away every night,” she said.
“Our new studio will be air conditioned, which will be a welcome addition after the many hot summers spent stifling rehearsals in preparation for concerts and competitions.
“Our new modifications also include a beautiful tongue-and-groove hardwood floor.
“As a local business owner, I know how important it is to support the local sector. Nathan Groszmann Constructions is an award winning, family owned, local construction company.
“He has helped us over the years with minor projects. Nathan, Peta and the team have always been open, transparent with costs and flexible in all previous endeavors.
Unique Dance Studio is located upstairs in Stockwell Bargara Center, and Tammy said she plans to complete the renovations and modifications by the end of January so that new classes begin in the first weeks of February.
“This place is very important to the residents of Bargara – a lot of people didn’t even know we had a dance studio in Bargara,” Tammy said.
“It’s going to be really handy for moms and dads who can do their shopping while the little ones are up dancing.
“After 25 years of working in the vibrant Bargara community, we are proud to inspire talent and help students achieve their dreams.”
