Phenomenology helps the Academy of Fine Arts raise funds for a dance studio

FREDERICK, Md., Jan. 29, 2021 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Phenomenology, Inc., an innovative production model in the performing arts, has stepped up to help the Academy of Fine Arts raise ten thousand dollars in critical funds to fund a state-of-the-art dance studio for Frederick County Public School students.

The AFA brings together around 100 students from 10 public high schools interested in learning the visual arts, dance, music and theatre. Although the AFA serves students from all 10 FCPS high schools, it receives no direct funding and must rely on general budget allocations provided by Governor Thomas Johnson High School, where the AFA is located.

“As a corridor for the performing arts, a central part of our mission is to provide valuable resources and opportunities to professional, amateur and student artists in Frederick, Maryland,” said Artistic Director and CEO of Phenomenology, Jeffery Keilholtz. “As soon as this need was brought to our attention, our team connected AFA with important partners who could help us.”

Keilholtz worked with AFA Coordinator Jonathan Kurtz to position the nonprofit as an AFA fiscal sponsor to attract grants. As a result, AFA secured funding through a generous grant from Delaplaine Foundation, Inc.

“We cannot thank our community partners enough for getting involved and recognizing our needs. We have been waiting for five years to create a proper studio space for our dancers and we are thrilled to finally be able to make it happen. These funds will allow our program to expand and add new areas of focus, with the goal of reaching more CFPS students to help prepare them for their post-secondary experience.

The funds will be used to install a suspended dance floor in a new studio space. To this day, dance students share the TJ High School auditorium stage to rehearse with theater students. A new studio will allow dancers and actors to have adequate and separate rehearsal spaces to meet the needs of each program.
